The Kraken can only be fought while on a slayer task for Krakens or a boss task for the Kraken.

The Kraken is an extremely popular boss due to it’s relative ease and the fact that the Kraken drops Kraken tentacles and the Trident of the Seas, both are very highly in demand, especially by Ironmen.

The most common tactic to use at the Kraken is to maximise magic damage and magic defence, there’s no need to use protection prayers as protect from magic is not effective, but you should use Augury or Mystic Might to maximise DPS.

If you wish, you can pay 25k to gain access to an instance which will allow you to kill the Kraken without worrying about other players.

In the gems section of this page you have the links for Shadowlace helm and legs instead of haste/vers gems. Those pieces *are* gems when it comes to catch-up gear for clothie toons, but strictly speaking they are not actual gems. Also you might want to consider adding the vers/mastery conquest boots to this gear list. I can't really imagine a situation where it would be advantageous to farm dungeons and spend valor for that slot over using PvP gear when the alternatives don't have our ideal secondary stats. Mastery tends to sim slightly higher than crit unless you're running Fevered Incantation, and the vast majority of mages are using Triune Ward in PvP. Since there are no haste/vers boots in the game at a high item level, I would think it's probably better to get the extra vers from the PvP boots. Especially considering that they are relatively easy to get, and have the benefit of being upgradable through PvP activities at a higher max item level than Valor gear.
