THE RULES OF THE GAME:
CCJ - Chinese Checkers for JAVA is the Java implementation of a traditional Chinese game for two to six players.

The classic Chinese Checkers board has a six pointed star shape. Each star point is identified by a colored triangle consisting of ten holes. The interior of the board is a solid color hexagon with five holes on each side. Each player will move one of the six colored sets of ten marbles.

The objective of the game is to move the ten marbles across the board and occupy the star point triangle directly opposite. The first player to accomplish this is a winner. More than one player may reach the end point during the same round, being both or all winners.

Each player uses a different colored set of ten marbles and places them at the corresponding triangle or starting point of the six pointed star.

The six star Chinese Checkers board allows a combination of two, three, four or six players. The players are distributed keeping a balance on the board: Two and four players games start at opposing triangles. A three player game start with the marbles in three triangles equally distant (equidistant) from each other.

Partners may be chosen and it is permitted to help move the partner's marbles after a player finishes first. In the event of one partner finishing first, he or she is permitted to help the unfinished partner move his marbles.

Toss a coin or choose a player to start; then play continues to the left. Each player moves one of his colored marbles on each turn. A marble can be moved into an adjacent empty hole or jump any colored marble in any direction, following the board lines, and landing into a vacant hole. Successive jumps are allowed as long as empty holes are available beyond adjacent marbles. It is possible to move a marble from the starting triangle to the target triangle in one turn using various jumps or hops.

Marbles are never removed from the board. Once a peg has reached the opposite triangle, it may not be moved out of the triangle. If one or more of the holes in the target triangle contain a marble belonging to another player, this does not prevent a player from winning by dubious blocking. The player is entitled to win the game when all the available holes within the triangle are occupied.

Checkers Rules

Checkers is a classic board game, dating back to around 3000 BC. It is very simple, but a lot of fun! Checkers is known as Draughts in England and there are multiple variations of it all around the world. The game is played on an 8x8 chequered board, essentially a chess board. Each player starts with 12 pieces, placed on the dark squares of the board closest to them. The objective of the game is to capture all the opponent's pieces by jumping over them.

Gameplay

Pieces can only move diagonally on the dark squares, the light squares of the board are never used. A normal move is moving a piece diagonally forward one square. The initial pieces can only move forward diagonally, not backwards. You cannot move onto a square that is occupied by another piece. However, if an opponent piece is on the square diagonally in front of you and the square behind it is empty then you can (and must!) jump over it diagonally, thereby capturing it. If you land on a square where you can capture another opponent piece you must jump over that piece as well, immediately. One turn can capture many pieces. It is required to jump over pieces whenever you can.

If a piece reaches the end row of the board, on the opponent's side, it becomes a King. Kings can move diagonally forwards and backwards, making them more powerful in jumping over opponent pieces. However, if you jump over a piece to become a King you can not jump backwards over another piece in the same move, you have to wait until the next turn to start moving backwards.

Jumping over opponents is required. However, if you have two possible moves, where one jumps over one opponent and the other jumps over two or more opponents you are not required to take the jump with the most opponents captured, you are just required to take any jump move.

Winning

The game can end in four different ways:

  1. If a player has lost all his pieces he loses.
  2. If a player can't move at all, all his pieces are blocked, he loses.
  3. The exact same board state has come up three times without any men captured in between. The game ends in a draw. This is to avoid situation with two pieces left just moving around never being able to capture each other.
  4. There have been 100 moves (50 for each player) with no piece captured. The game ends in a draw.
